Very Different Visions for America
If you click on this link you can read an article that appears today in USATODAY entitled Very Different Visions. The writer says that the conventions of the Republican and Democratic parties clearly showed the difference between the parties. The Democrats continually painted themselves as the party of the losers in society, those that have been left behind, hurt by the gales of the supposedly cruel free market. The Republicans painted themselves as the party of winners and those who want to be winners. I like what Mike Huckabee said. He said, I’m not a Republican because I grew up rich. I’m a Republican because I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life poor, waiting for the government to rescue me.”
In another article I read Obama said he might consider postponing raising taxes on the rich if it will hurt the economy. Wow, thanks Mr Obama. He absolutely will raise taxes; income taxes, investment taxes, inheritance taxes, capital gains taxes, every tax he can think of. He has said this. This last tax increase means that he wants to repeal the $500,000 capital gains tax exemption on the sale of a home that has been in place for a long time. Right now if a married couple sells a home and the increase in value is $500,000 or less then there is no tax. If Obama is elected he wants to make the entire increase in value taxable. Does he think only rich people sell homes? This would hurt every home owner in the country when it comes time to sell their home. This will hurt the average home owner much more than a rich person. The rich person’s house has already appreciated more than $500,000 and he/she is already planning to pay a capital gains tax. The average person who’s house has appreciated up to $500,000 will be hit hard by a capital gain tax of 20 to 40% on that increase. If you thought paying realtor fees was expensive, wait until you figure your capital gains tax on the sale of your home. It will make realtor fees look cheap. You won’t be able to afford the new house you wanted because the government needs to get a large chunk of your capital gain.
If you want to receive anything from your parents when they die you can just plan on sending 30 to 50% of the estate to the government because Mr Obama feels that the government should get a large part of the estate not you or your family members. If you own a family farm you won’t be able to keep it in the family because you will have to sell the farm to pay the government the 30 to 50% that Mr Obama says the government should have.
He wants to increase income taxes on everyone making over $50,000. The problem is that virtually every family in the United States would have their income tax increased because in most homes are two wage earners. When the two incomes are added together on a joint income tax return most people would be well over the threshold that Obama finds acceptable for income and he would increase the taxes. If Obama becomes president everyone’s income tax will go up so that he can help the losers of society.
The Democrats call themselves the party of the working man/woman. But in reality the Democrats are the party of the non-working man/woman, the losers of society. He needs to tax the money away from the working men/women in the country to give to the non-working men/women. Democrats like to think they are promoting the American Dream. The fact is the Democrats are opposed to the American Dream. As soon as a person starts to realize the American Dream and find some success in life, buy a home, make a little more money, that person becomes the enemy to a Democrat. He/she is now “the rich” and the rich must be taxed so the losers of society can be benefitted.
If you feel that it is your responsibility to lift and carry all the losers of society then vote for Mr Obama. He will require that you help the losers in society in the amount he feels that you should help them whether you feel that is your responsibility or not.
I think the Republicans are the real party of change with John McCain and Sarah Palin. These two have been mavericks in their political careers and would upset the status quo applecart, even the status quo of their own party. The policies of Obama have been tried in the past and found hurtful. Obama doesn’t really want change. He wants to do the same things that failed in the past. More government ownership and control of everything (i.e. more Socialism) is not the road to success in the future and it is not change, at least it is not change that I want to see. Obama and Biden want to take us back to more government control of everything. McCain and Palin want to implement real change.
The USATODAY article is very interesting.
